Self-Drive Dog Sledding

Imagine sledding in thick snow amidst the beautiful landscape of snowy terrains! Villmarkssenter offers a range of husky tours and activities, including self-drive dog sledding. As the name suggests, you will get to ride the sled all by yourself!

You will be greeted and picked up by a staff member from the meeting point (in front of the Radisson Blu Hotel). After a 25-minute ride to the centre, you need to wear your pair of boots and thermal overalls for the tour.

Before giving you the sled reins, the guide will brief you about the basics of dog sledding. Another participant will be riding along with you. Once you reach halfway, your fellow passenger will take over the reins, and you will get to be the passenger. The ride will be nothing short of exhilarating!

You can take breaks to click pictures on the way. Once you complete the ride comes another fun part. The tour operator has a pack of 200 Alaskan huskies and their pups in their huge yard. You will get to spend time with these little fuzzy pooches and even cuddle them! Later, you will be taken on a guided tour of the yard.

These Alaskan dogs are trained to participate in major competitions and events. After learning a thing or two about the husky tours and competitive events, you will be treated to a delectable meal of Sami reindeer stew. Vegetarians can make a special request for vegetarian food while making the booking.

Try the signature chocolate cake and have a warm drink or two. After spending enough time here, you will be transferred back to Tromsø.

As dog sledding requires participants to have good fitness levels, the tour is only open for people who are 16 years and above (even if a parent wants to self-drive the sled keeping a child as a passenger).

You need to carry a pair of gloves and a hat for the tour. For the months of February, March, and April, carry your sunglasses as well.
