Join a 1-hour guided cultural experience at Snow Resort Kirkenes near Kirkenes. Meet reindeer, learn about the ways of the Sámi people, hear stories by the campfire, and listen to a joik performance.
Begin your afternoon at 13:30 (1:30 PM) at Snow Resort Kirkenes, located by the reindeer pen behind the reception building. You will first meet four of the reindeer and learn about their role in Sámi culture, including how they are fed and herded.
Then enter the pen and proceed to a traditional lavvu (Sámi tent) where you’ll sit around a campfire. Here, guide and Sámi artist John Henrik Mienna will share folkloric stories and personal experiences of Sámi life in the Arctic. The session culminates with a performance of the joik — the unique song tradition of the Sámi.
This experience gives a compact, hands‑on glimpse into Sámi heritage and northern Norwegian culture. Although transfer is not included, you may take the Snow Resort Kirkenes shuttle departing at 13:00 from the Thon or Scandic hotel in Kirkenes (ticket 50 NOK each way). Return about 15:30.
